Corticosteroids Adverse Side Effects:
"CUSHINGS BAD MD"
C - Cataracts
U - Up all night (sleep disturbances)
S - Suppression of HPA axis
H - Hypertension/buffalo Hump
I - Infections
N - Necrosis (avascular)
G - Gain weight
S - Striae
B - Bone loss (osteoporosis)
A - Acne
D - Diabetes
D - Myopathy, moon faces
D - Depression and emotional changes

Diabetes Medication - Oral Hypoglycaemics:
"BAGS"
B - Biguanides :e.g. metformin - reduces insulin resistance, S/E GI upset, lactic acidosis

A - Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors - e.g. acarbose inhibits carbohydrate digestion so reduces intestinal glucose reabsorption, S/E bloating, diarrhoea

G - Glitazones (thiazolidinediones) e.g. pioglitazone, risoglitazone-insulin-sensitising agents causing transcription of Glut-1 receptors, S/E hepatotoxicity

S - Sulphonylureas e.g. gliclazide, tolbutamine-stimulate insulin production from pancreatic beta-cells, S/E weight gain and hypoglycaemia

Glucocorticoids, Adverse effects :
" GLUCOCORTICOIDS"
G - Glaucoma
L - Lunacy (Psychotic episodes)
U - peptic Ulceration
C - Cushing's syndrome
O - Osteoporosis
C - Cataracts (posterior subcapcular in children)
O - Opportunistic infections

Propythiouracil (PTU) Mechanism :
It inhibits "PTU"
P - Peroxidase/Peripheral deiodination
T - Tyrosine iodination
U - Union (coupling)

Rx of Diabetic Ketoacidosis :

• Insulin
• Intravenous fluids
• Sodium bicarbonate
• Phoshates
• Antibiotics

SIADH Inducing Drugs:
"ABCD"
A - Analgesics: opioids, NSAIDs
B - Barbiturates
C - Cyclophosphamide/Chlorpromazine/Carbamazepine
D - Diuretic (thiazide)
